Ben Bernanke seems like a decent man. I do like his demeanor and know he is quite brilliant. I just happen to think he has an obsession with the Great Depression; it has cast a long shadow over his thinking.
Mr. Bernanke seems obsessed by the idea, based on his own historical research and that of Friedman and Schwartz, had the Fed just done "more" the Great Depression could have been avoided or at least mitigated to a great degree. I think he is very wrong. In fact, I believe as many others do it was the Fed's manipulation of money and credit that caused the Great Depression in the first place.
